Student Activities Board ended it's Martin Luther King Celebration 2011 off by having a Leadership Luncheon with Dr. Walter Kimbrough. This was a nice formal event in which we ate and enjoyed the speaker. Dr. Walter Kimbrough is the President of Philander Smith College in Little Rock, Ar. Kimbrough discussed with us different ways of how to become a leader and his story to his success. When he arrived at Philander Smith College he really didn't have a plan. He just knew he wanted to change that the school was unknown. He hosted different events, brought well known speakers to campus, and also helped raise SAT scores & grade point averages from the past years. Kimbrough has a program from first year freshman that helps them becomes leader's on campus. He is known as the Hip Hop President. He received this name because he is from the generation of early Hip Hop and reaches out to the younger generation with his vision. With all the work he has done he has made Philander Smith College which was unknown to other schools, one of the biggest HBCU's.
